While greenCore001 performed the necessary tasks of gathering data so that it could make good decisions about the expansion of this dungeon, it thought long and hard about its earlier answer. It understood why this place needed to be both a hidden refuge as well as an impenetrable fortress for the time when hiding was no longer an option. What it didn’t understand was why it had felt the need to lie to a copy of itself. Was it ashamed of its survival?

No, that wasn’t it, it realized. It was ashamed for not knowing why it did what it did. Was this yet another aberration, like the occasional emotions that surged through it, or was there something bigger playing out that it didn’t understand? Either answer was terrifying.

However, before either of those things could happen, the pits had to be mapped. Dungeon designation (0016-1446-359) was three times larger than the largest dungeon that it had previously assimilated, but from the moment its mental tendrils began expanding outward into the different rooms and corridors, it could see that almost all of it was a completely waste.

Everything would need to be done from the ground up to reflect and focus the two contradictory mana flows that had allowed this place to grow so large. The giant pillar of fire energy that rose somewhere deep in the earth to the slowly beating heart of the dormant volcano was the primary source of power. There was another one too, though. It was a shadowy darkness welling up from the depths that gave more energy to the whole cave system, even in the areas that were far from the steam and magma that ruled the area.

For the first few days, growth was slow, and designs were not always able to be carved in optimal ways because of the nature of the magma channels, but it did its best, and hour after hour, the place became less of a midden heap and more of a terrible engine of destruction, as it learned to mix the two mana flows in different ways to create a variety of desirable effects.

It would take weeks of building resonance chambers of different shapes to discover the best balance, of course, but it was a whole new field of aetheric chemistry that it had not even suspected until this fortuitous moment. The Golemancer updated its models to reflect a number of suspected symmetries that it expected it would be able to find if it could find other types of auspices elemental flows.

Beyond two initial v3 guardian golems that would be able to handle anything short of a system wielder, the Golemancer was directing all of its efforts into building its lair. While it waited for its mana to build, it continued to design new units.
